There were also allegations that the foundation has misused funds on entertainment and over-extravagant recruitment procedures.[by whom? ] A report criticising the ESF's use of funds was published by the Hong Kong Government in November 2002, resulting in a continuing debate about whether the subsidy should be cut or even suspended.

Our outstanding results are a testament to our exceptional teaching staff, who care for every single student and work with them to unlock their potential. At the heart of our success is our approach to education – ensuring that every student is an active participant in their own learning. The 13,000 students in ESF schools and the 4,000 in the PIS and the kindergartens include over 50 different nationalities. Although all of the ESF schools are comprehensive and non-selective, students in the foundation have generally done well academically, with 90% of their graduates going to different universities around the world.

At the same time, our schools have developed their own traditions and characteristics. Our motive behind developing The Knowledge Review is to provide data relevant to every individual connected to education, i.e., Student, Parents, Professors, and Institute Management. ESF works in partnership with a range of external organisations, which include the Savannah College of Art Design, the HK Academy of Performing Arts, the International Culinary Institute and the Federation University, World Academy of Sport.

At ESF we make sure our students enjoy learning – and get ready to take the lead in whatever field they choose to enter. Our proud history means that our alumni have been shaping the world in which we live for decades. Beginning in 2011 the E.S..F have been sending students to Tasikoki as part of the Community , Action and Service projects. Students involved in these project have taking part in volunteer activities as well as work on specific project to support the work of Tasikoki and the Masarang Foundation.

ESF offers continuity of learning from the earliest years of kindergarten through to university entrance. Their mission is to inspire creativity and nurture global citizens and the leaders of the future. ESF believes that this is achieved by recruiting the best teachers – and giving them the freedom to create learning experiences, which enable every single student to be a confident and successful learner. To enrich learning beyond the classroom, ESF Sports and Language offer a range of extra-curricular activities and camps. ESF Sports provides world-class coaching to students of all ages and abilities in football, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, basketball, fencing, sailing and more. Class teachers work in collaboration with specialist teachers and educational assistants to provide individual and small group support to students with additional needs.

ESF Language and Learning provides a range of fun and interactive English, Spanish and French classes, and playgroups for its youngest learners. Students often receive fast-track acceptance to specific universities or courses because of their participation in the IBCP. An ESF education is an education worth having, focused on academic excellence and encompassing real-life skills, such as critical thinking and problem-solving.
